A WORD BEFORE ELECTION.

____

Article 2 of the Platform of the People’s Party (a party which by the way is very much misnamed) is that they oppose all articles as set forth in the platform of the Citizens Party.  The platform of the Citizens Party as adopted at their convention held Thursday night of last week, provided for the construction of a trunk sewer along 5th avenue, and also on 4th street, and likewise for the paving and grading of those two streets.

A more reasonable measure could not be expected by any fair minded person.

If the amount subscribed were divided over the various streets, there would be absolutely nothing to show for money expended, and the streets would be still in an almost impassable condition.  And it would require considerable to put them in the state of repair as demanded by the clamoring class, i.e., the man who expects that by making himself obnoxious at the convention, he can demoralize the Party so as to satisfy his individual wants.

Can any one charge the present Board with blundering or extravagance?  No!  they have used excellent judgment, which by the way, any one not acquainted with the difficult problems which affront a new Board when it has to actually oragnize [sic], and have in operation a code of substantial bylaws, and also do all the duties peculiar to a newly incorporated Village, in less than nine months, and are repaid by condemnation, instead of thanks, may fail to understand.

But to some folks, it is almost useless to argue, and we ask all influential citizens who pride themselves with being interested in the village’sofficers, and there ought to be a good many in Pelham, to use all their powers to influence the misguided to vote for the following ticket:  For President, Jacob Heisser; for Trustee, Otto E. Stroetzel; for Treasurer, Thomas R. Scott; for Collector, William Edinger.
